CHINA, IMPRESSIONS OF A CHANGING WORLD

China, impressions of a changing worldChina, impressions of a changing world

How can we speak about the sky?

It is easier to be spoken by it, so large and so untouchable it is. The same matter is true for China, 4 simple types, 2 ideograms – Zhong Guo, Country of the Middle, that contain a world that makes us to feel a sense of loss. Beyond stereotypes and flattening opinions of this global era, geographical and cultural differences still exist (fortunately), making China a country to be discovered with the attitude of who looks towards

“the other and the elsewhere”.

To speak about China is much more difficult, not only because of the vastity of the country, but also because it is a changeable macrocosmus, which has undergone so big and fast transformations in the last 50-70 years, that is very hard to focus. This is a critical condition for Chinese people as well, that forces them to think about their own identity and roots, but also about the future of their country…

always moving on a woolen thread (or better, silk thread!), which will be even more interwoven with the rest of the world.

Looking for the “true” China, someone has the opinion that the country definitely faded out with the end of the Celestial Empire: the following history is just a mere revival of western culture and ideology (from the maoist totalitarism, to the rampant capitalism, to the neocolonialism and economic exploitation of the other countries by the Chinese governament itself).

According to this thesis, China is like a big “accumulator-accelerator-multiplier” of historic western phenomena, but in a distopic release.

But there is also who have a different vision of China. A country that, thanks to the exchanges with the rest of the world, is recovering an aware and dialoguing way of thinking,  rediscovering the traditional and true features of the local culture. An attitude that is making China a big laboratory for innovative practises that, thanks to the big numbers, might have a positive impact on the whole planet.
